Tube Amplification?

I'm interested in my stereo system from semi conductor to the pipes. I have a pair of paradigm titans, but I can update it to control 7 's in the future. i 'the VE that looks vintage amps Gradica the fisherman and the marantz, many are over $ 1000. anyone has suggestions that can get the tube to swing around $ 400? i also don 't really understand the concept of the preamplifier. are needed? should have the preamp tubes as well? something i 'the VE would have imagined with a modern preamp connectors for coaxial S / PDIF (does this exist?) coupled with a vintage amplifier or at least a utility pipe. i don 'sound eyes of the imagination needed t just great. also, i 'the VE view on the tube amp-ebay that were removed from the jukebox, some dating back to the 50' s, which was summarized. these goods are for audio reproduction in a stereo system? thanks for the consideration to those who provide the answers!
