Tube Amplifiers
John Z asked:

I'm looking to get all of the tube amplifier. From my sources I can get the blue or lower protection for the price almost the same. What are your experiences with one or the other one?

The Fender is an incredibly reliable and great-sounding little amp.For a few bucks more I can highly recommend moving up to the HotRod series.

Look into Bheringer amps. Relatively new company and they are making some really powerful amps at quite a cheap price. I got a 180watt bass amp for £180 (about $260), and it is really compact.

The blues Jr is a good little amp, will be around for years, and always have value

    The Kustom stuff is ..
    I won’t say
    same about the Behringer,

    They sound decent new,
    are made very cheap,
    with have NO resale value
    when they break,
    ya throw ’em away

    The Fender sounds good,
will still be around 20 years from now…

I saw John Mayer use a Blues Junior on a live Tv show sounded great- I have one- I am very happy with- go here to check out how it sounds and make up your own mind. I was more interested in the pure amp sound than the actual recording quality. The song’s called working man’s Blues. I hope it helps. (Get the top of the range model)

Go with the Blues Jr. It has already stood the test of time.

You need to try them both out with the same guitar. If you have a big preference in sound of one over the other, get the one that you like best. There is an advantage on the Fender – its available all over the place, and is therefore readily repairable if that becomes necessary. If you have the extra money, try out the “tweed” Blues Jr. Limited Edition from Guitar Center – it has an alnico speaker and has a sound that is pretty cool. I have one. Otherwise, take a regular Blues Jr. and put in an alnico speaker and you will get almost the same sound.
