How do I test a 4-400 linear amplifier tube?

kp4gc asked:
I have an amplifier linear stroke of lightning Johnson Viking. Recently, the transformer has exploded diagonal. I replaced the processor, but now I select the polarization voltage and grid voltages are below normal. When I remove the bias voltages 4-400 get back to normal. The tubes I 'M now that is using new Eimac January 8438. But the problem also occurs with old Amperex 8438. Voltage stabilizers VR-150 and VR-105 are new units. The rectifiers have been tested and found good. Is there a way to rest my 4-400 tubes without replacing them (I do not have extra tubes)? if you need more info on this problem to give a precise answer to let me know.

Unfortunately the only way to truly test a transmitter tube is while transmitting. If the same thing happens with 2 different tube, I would suspect it is not the tube(s). I would recommend you post the question on the Elmers Forum of eham.net and see if anyone there can help you out. Good luck.
